Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, and is about 10 miles from both downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul. It is the largest airport in the Upper Midwest region. The airport started out as Wold-Chamberlain Field in 1921; it was named after two World War I pilots. In 1944, the name was changed to Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Airport/Wold-Chamberlain Field, and in current times "Metropolitan" was replaced with "International" and the second half of the name has been eliminated. The main terminal, named after Charles Lindbergh, was built in 1962. This terminal handles all of the international flights, as well as the major domestic airlines.
Aside from the Lindbergh Terminal, the airport has a much smaller Humphrey Terminal, which was built in the late 1970s and named for Vice President Hubert Humphrey. The Lindbergh Terminal has seven concourses, and the Humphrey Terminal has one. Both terminals have light-rail stops that connect the airport with both downtown Minneapolis and the Mall of America in Bloomington. The airport is near Fort Snelling and the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, and the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers flow adjacent to the airport. There are three airline lounges, all located in the Lindbergh Terminal: two Delta Sky Clubs and one United Club.
